Alienation Policy

M. Kaiser

The people of J&K have been waiting for the solution of Kashmir Issue since decades. They have been battling for the solution of Kashmir and this battle has taken many forms from non violence to armed struggle. From pro-freedom to mainstream political parties here, all are in some way or other advocating for solution of Kashmir issue. Hence, undoubtedly it can be said that every political party in Kashmir is Pro-Kashmir resolution. Besides, local political parties the ruling parties of past and present in centre have also advocated for solution of Kashmir dispute. Now when state as well as centre, ruling as well as opposition parties and pro-freedom as well as mainstream political parties are in favour of resolving the issue, the billion dollar question arises why the issue gets complicated with every passing day and the resolution looks distant? It is important to ponder, despite such a common view, Why there are vast differences regarding the resolution? Different people may have different perspectives regarding this difference and one of the perspective among the class of intellects seeking Kashmir resolution is that the Kashmir policy of Centre is merely based on inputs by intelligence and security agencies. We have seen working groups or interlocutors appointed for Kashmir and they have been submitting their reports to the government. But, until now barely any of the recommendations have been implemented and therefore this exercise described just as time buying tactics.

Few days back, Union Minster Jairam Ramesh on a two day visit to Kashmir, told media persons that Kashmir policy is being dictated by intelligent agencies and aspiration of J&K people are neglected by the Centre. If this statement was given by a pro-freedom leader or even by a mainstream politician of state, it may have been termed as baseless. But a Union Minster giving such a revelation can`t be taken easily and somehow it vindicates the theory , accusing centre of alienating the people of J&K.
