Srinagar, 12th February: With the 4th edition of Khelo India Winter Games-2024 just around the corner, the J&K Sports Council is conducting road shows in various locations across the union territory to showcase the upcoming sports extravaganza at the world-famous ski resort Gulmarg.
The road shows, which started last week, have drawn crowds from different backgrounds and age groups. The first show was held at the iconic Ghanta Ghar in Lal Chowk Srinagar, where the mascot of the event, the snow leopard, was displayed. Many people, especially children, took selfies with the cut-out and dummy of the mascot.
The Secretary YSS, Sarmad Hafeez, also led a road show in civil secretariat Jammu, accompanied by the chief sports officer Muhammad Haneef and other officials from the Sports Council and YSS department. He spoke about the significance of the event and how it can pave the way for hosting international Winter Games in J&K, particularly in the scenic Gulmarg. He also highlighted the previous editions of the Khelo India Winter Games and the administration’s commitment to promote sports excellence. He emphasized the extensive promotional campaign of the Winter Games to attract sports lovers and tourists.
More road shows were organized around Dal Lake and other places in both Jammu and Kashmir divisions. Many tourists and locals interacted with the trainees, coaches, managers, and other officials of the J&K Sports Council during these shows.
The Secretary J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gull, briefed about the preparations for the Khelo India Winter Games and said that it is a great opportunity for the J&K athletes to shine in the field. She said that the event is a result of a great collaboration between the J&K Sports Council, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, GOI and Sports Authority of India to foster the winter sports culture in the country and make J&K the hub of all major sports activities in the world. She also expressed her hope that J&K will soon become one of the adventure sports destinations of the country as the Sports Council is working towards that goal.
The J&K Sports Council is sparing no effort in promoting the Khelo India Winter Games through road shows in all prominent places in J&K. The event promises to be an exciting time for sports enthusiasts, as J&K aims to become a centre of winter sports culture and excellence, Nuzhat Gull added.(KNB)
