Need Sero Survey Again

Owais Ayoub

Another Sero Survey looks very important to be conducted in Kashmir division to know about the presence of Covid19 antibodies in the people after last year’s survey showed that 39 per cent of Kashmir’s population had developed Covid19 antibodies. In the absence of covid vaccination, the sero survey would only help to know the general scenario of one’s area or whether to keep it out of bounds or not. Whereas, a new results of sero prevalence at the time when vaccinations are going on in Kashmir would have helped to prioritise the areas or districts to be given doses, while not majorly altering Centre’s given plan.

However, scientists were of late sceptical about to comment on herd immunity in a society when the vaccine was not available, but given the vaccines rollout and its administration, the picture to reveal about the status of herd immunity in the immediate future still looks murkier as no sero survey results, coterminous with the underway covid vaccination, are known. Therefore, it is imperative for the J&K’s health department and government to mull over the conducting of the next sero survey, which in subsequent post vaccinations times might not be wrong, too.
