School: A Forgotten Home

School: A Forgotten Home

Editorial- Apart from taking to resorts, restaurants, health clubs and many other places; students have missed attending schools the most during past few years in Jammu and Kashmir. Back to back lockdowns, be it because of the 5th August 2019 decision or the on going Covid-19 pandemic, has shaped all together a different way of living for all the people around the world but the impact on student life has been the most concerning.

Children used to spending most of their time inside school premises, interacting with classmates and teachers are the experiences almost forgotten due to closure of the educational institutions. Despite e-classes being conducted across the valley, in-person teaching will always have an upper hand in inducing not only academic knowledge but as well as behavioral attributes within the children.

It is not all about what students of the valley are missing out on, but also parents concerned about managing their wards at home. Since the use of mobile phones/gadgets has become necessary for e-classes, restricting excessive use of the same for the young ones has become impossible, in-fact are demanding their own gadgets. Experts have always advised parents to keep check over the screen time use of their wards but due to the pandemic not many options have been left to save the future of the world ‘children’.

All that could be done to avoid deterioration of the mental health of students and inclination towards these gadgets is to constantly remind them about it’s pros and cons, and more importantly indulging them into physical activities. Taking them for a ride around their educational institutions to remind them about their second home, excite them about it, will hopefully ignite love and respect they ought to have for it.
