In the year 2012, India and Pakistan initiated some steps towards a better relation between the two countries that were expected to yield better results. Therefore, the year 2013 was expected to be the bright year for development of relations between India and Pakistan. However, all the hopes were shuttered after the incident of firing and subsequent killing of two army personals of Indian Army in Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir. The incident was widely of condemned and generated huge anger among various circles. Earlier Pakistan’s had accused India over what it described as an “unprovoked Indian attack” on one of its military posts along the LOC that resulted in the death of a Pakistani soldier and injuries to another.
Whosoever is responsible for such events but the truth is that ultimately it drags the situation back to square one. The issues that were expected to move would remain stagnant. The people bearing the hardships due to Kashmir dispute between India and Pakistan are the worst victims of such incidents. Every time when a ray of hope for peace between India and Pakistan comes out somehow this ray gets blocked and it again leads to darkness.
The Indian media highlighted the issue of killing of Indian army personals so overwhelmingly that it created further pressure on government to lodge a strong protest. It also provided opposition political parties an opportunity to corner the UPA government. BJP seized the opportunity for nailing the UPA government’s and stressed on change in peace policy with Pakistan. Shiv-Sena demanded end of sports and cultural ties with Pakistan.
The kind of attitude displayed by Politicians, defense personals and even media of both the countries has exposed their immaturity to resolve a problem like Kashmir Issue which has left people of JK in agony since more than two decades.
