Pahalgam, February 23(KNB) – In a blatant disregard for regulations, hotel construction has resumed near a residential house at Lonepora Batakoot, despite a notice issued by the Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA) CEO.
The construction, which involves raising a plinth for a hotel, was initially halted two months ago following Notice No. 5052-53 dated September 2025. However, work has recommenced, allegedly due to PDA staff negligence.
The notice was issued under Section 7(1) of the J&K Control of Building Operations Act 1988, mandating permission from the competent authority before construction. The PDA directed landowner Adil Ahmad Khawaja to cease construction, warning of strict action for non-compliance.
Despite this, construction has resumed, raising concerns about PDA enforcement and vigilance. Local sources reveal the construction is near the owner’s residential property, violating the earlier directive.
Locals are outraged, questioning the regulatory authority’s transparency and efficacy. The incident raises concerns about the enforcement staff’s role in monitoring unauthorized constructions in ecologically sensitive Pahalgam.
The construction’s resumption defies the CEO’s notice and undermines the rule of law.
Sources suggest the violator didn’t seek fresh permission, raising questions about local officials’ complicity. Illegal constructions in Pahalgam persist, with allegations of corruption and favoritism linked to regulatory authorities.
However, PDA CEO Ilyas Ahmad was unavailable for comment. (KNB)
