Gool Massacre

Rameez Makhdoomi
In its blood soaked history, the turbulent Jammu & Kashmir state witnessed yet another massacre recently .The paramilitary soldiers had fired at protesters in the Ramban region of Jammu & Kashmir state , killing about six and wounding 40 members of a crowd demonstrating against what they said was the desecration of the holy Quran by Indian security forces. Members of the Border Security Force (BSF) had opened fire on protesters in the Gool area, killing four and wounding 40, said Home minister of state , Sajjad Kitchloo. This massacre has plunged the conflict ridden Jammu & Kashmir into yet another crisis. Clashes and protests have taken place in length and breadth of the state and scores have been left wounded in these protests. What has followed from authorities is an usual brutal response to these protests and imposing curfews. The promise of inquiry and compensation was parroted this time as well as has been the norm after very massacre. Chief Minister and his officials after every killing have offered promises to punish the culprits and these have never been implemented. The tears of these Mainstream politicians by their conduct have come to be known as crocodile tears. Thousands of youth have been killed in massacres and we have also seen thousands getting disappeared and raped. Indian state and its caretakers in Jammu & Kashmir have only had oppressive tactics to offer. The basic soul of democracy has been stabbed by not having talks with people on resolution. History will remember every massacre committed on browbeaten masses of this unfortunate land. While Gool soaks in blood it looks those in helm of affairs would wait for another massacre to happen to come up with fake promises and crocodile tears.
