Why J&K Law Secretary’s Car Was Whisked Away To Police Station. Here’s The Other Side Of The Story

There is always other side of the story. A day after J&K law secretary Muhammad Ashraf Mir was whisked away to police station for what he termed the unknown reason. The Kashmir Scenario has brought the reason before you.

There is very much anger within the police department over this development as they believe the police officer was punished for doing his duty. The cop who is of the rank of an SHO says he was in a catch-22 situation and could do nothing at that time.

“There was a Chief Ministers movement in the area. According to SOP we even have to stop the vehicle of DG police if there is a CM movement. What if the car would have been of terrorists? How could we identify who is in the car. What if I would have allowed the car and it would turn out to be of some miscreant. We are there to ensure security,” SHO Nissar Hurra said.

Police officials widely believe that either the VIP culture should be stopped or police should be allowed to work to ensure security.

A senior police official narrated a similar incident. He said just a few months ago, CM’s cavalcade got stuck near Jehangir Chowk and the concerned Police zone was asked to give the explanation as to what led the incident.

The notice was sent by Deputy Director SSG, Srinagar that reads: Please refer to Deputy Director SSG log report number 8 and Pos 148-15/5735, dated 5-5-2015 regarding stuck of HCM cavalcade for two minutes. The concerned police station was asked to furnish a detailed report was sought within a day.

A cursory look at the car also in no way gives an impression that it belongs to any top official. The level of arrogance of the law secretary is that his car has not been seized and still lies in the premises of Shaheed Gunj Police station, but the top Babu has not come to take the vehicle. He instead wants the concerned SHO to drive his vehicle to his respective place.

A police cop also said that the law secretary’s car didn’t in any way resembled like any official car. He was sitting on the front seat next to the driver.

“Usually officials sit on the back seat of the car. There was no flag sort of thing. How could we identify it? Whole traffic was stopped because of the CM’s movement. He tried to jump the instructions and misbehaved with the traffic cops which infuriated the SHO and he took him to the task,” a police cop said.

Police cops have now one question. They said they fail to understand why the whole secretariat has stood for him when he has done something wrong. “They have union and can do anything. In police we don’t have such groups and unions; otherwise, we can also hold protests in front of the civil secretariat. When we do that just imagine the situation of the state that day,” they said.

A top police officer said this incident is not a simple story of an SHO has been punished, but exposes the rot in our system. When it comes to controlling traffic and protocol, police doesn’t even allow DGP’s vehicle to trespass during CM’s movement, he said.
