Srinagar 4 May (KNB): As the second wave of novel coronavirus is taking a heavy toll on everyone in the Valley as well as other parts of the Nation, SKIMSs decision to conduct an interview for Principal post seems bizarre.
Selection for the post of Principal SKIMS Bemina is slated on May 6 and sources told news agency Kashmir News Bureau that the top brass of Kashmir’s medical department, incumbent to oversee the Covid-19 situation, might leave for Jammu to conduct the interview for the post by abandoning the overriding responsibilities.
The interview for the post of Principal SKIMS medical college/hospital bemina which was last time postponed and was scheduled to be conducted on May 6 at 11:00 am at Convention Centre, Canal Road Jammu, the interview panel for this post’s selection comprises of Chief Secretary (Chairman), Director SKIMS Soura, Additional Director SKIMS, Dr Khuroo and GMC Principal. The absence of these top brass in present time is feared of abandoning their priority job of keeping vigil on the covid situation in Kashmir, said a doctor on the basis of anonymity.
The doctor said that the panel has to travel to Jammu to conduct the interview, and meanwhile, a precious time is apprehended to lost which could be used towards keeping an eye on any unforeseen Covid exigency to develop in Kashmir.
Apart from that, to conduct an interview amid the already imposed strict lockdown in the valley is not only bizarre but also exposes the incompetence of the concerned authority to understand the grave situation the nation is facing. Who could be mentally fit to go through the selection process?
For the incoming interview, nine doctors have been shortlisted, according to a notice, among whom one is head of Microbiology in one of the hospitals in Srinagar, and the other shortlisted doctor is head of the department of Emergency medicines. Their absence from hospitals is bound to create problems in current situations.
However, the examinations of the medical students were also postponed recently keeping in view Covid’s resurgence, but the need to conduct interviews seems beyond the comprehension.
It is pertinent to mention that UT is witnessing a growing case of Covid19 with an increase in fatality day by day. On Monday 3733 cases were reported in J&K with 51 deaths.
Therefore, the absence of the doctors (interviewees) heading important positions and the interviewers does not seem to be compatible with the present conditions worsened due to Covid. (KNB)
