Srinagar 4 May (KNB): Despite Srinagar Municipal Corporation Commissioner Aather Aamir Khan’s promises to take action against the illegal constructions going on in Srinagar city; nothing has been done to stop the construction in several areas identified earlier.

SMC has always emphasized the importance of timely action against the illegal constructions taking place in central Kashmir’s Srinagar district and against those without proper permissions and required No Objection Certificates (NOCs) but barely any practical action has been taken.

If it wasn’t for the mindful residents of the City, not even the demolition of the few illegal constructions taken place in the past months, would have been possible, said a SMC official on basis of anonymity.

Surprisingly, that is all the development the City has witnessed so far—demolition of few illegal structures—whereas a number of other construction activities are still going on unabated in several areas.

Except in these few cases in the past few months, SMC has failed to deliver all that is expected from the officials and the corporation as whole.

As the city is witnessing structures coming up fast in utter violation of all norms; with every passing moment and a brick added to these structures people are losing hope in the corporation and it’s inactive officers.

Pertinently, a number of people reached out to the news agency Kashmir News Bureau, who said that concrete complexes and other structures are coming up without having any permission from the concerned departments and yet no one is taking any action against them.

Recently, sources had revealed that the various unauthorized constructions have been taking place at Sakidafar, Batakadal, Bhagat, Neelam Cinema and other areas of Srinagar, but so far no team has reached there to examine these sites. (KNB)
