Srinagar 15 January (KNB): The temperature during Thursday night in Srinagar was at low -7.6 degree celsius with the morning fog enveloping most parts of Kashmir, making it hard for commuters and vehicles to reach their destinations.

According to the weather forecaster, the night temperature in Srinagar was -7.6 last night and the fog seen in the morning will dispel in the latter part of the day, adding that the temperature across Srinagar will remain around minus 5-6 degrees celsius during the day.

The mercury settled in Pahalgam, Kokernag, Qazigund, Gulmarg, Leh, Kargil and Drass at -8.6 degree celsius, -8.4 degree celsius, -8.3 degree celsius, -5.7 degree celsius, -11.6 degree celsius, -17.6 degree celsius and -25.3 degree celsius respectively as per the MET department.

However, as Kashmir is going through a Chillai Kalan, a forty-day harsh period during which severe cold is not unheard of, but the temperature on Wednesday night plummeting to the lowest -8.4 degree celsius made this winter season’s Chillai Kalan a bit different. (KNB)
