12 smokers caught by SHO-Nehru Park

NGO appeals public to lodge complaints against violators
SHO Nehrupark, Kuldeep Koul along with anti-tobacco squad Shabir Ahmed Lone, Food Safety Officer Srinagar and volunteers of J&K Voluntary Health Association (JKVHA) caught 12 persons smoking on Boulevard. A fine of Rs. 2,400 was compounded from them. The offenders included locals, tourists as well as drivers of taxis, mini-buses and Shikarawala. The squad was constituted by SDPO Nehru park, Gowher Jeelani on the instructions of SP (East) Tahir Sajad. Earlier, SHO Kothibagh and SDPO Nehru Park had caught almost 100 persons in the main city. Executive Director, JKVHA Mr. A.M.Mir (IAS Retd.) has lauded J&K Police and especially Inspector General of Police Kashmir, Abdul Gani Mir, for issuing instructions to District Police for conducting intensive drives in all areas, to prohibit smoking in public. A.M.Mir appealed to the Principals and Headmasters of all Educational Institutions to lodge written complaints with the nearest Police stations, in case anyone is found selling tobacco products within 100 yards of the educational institution or selling the product to children below 18 years, in violation of Section 6 of COTPA.
