Secretary KCEF calls on Governor

SRINAGAR: Mr. Waheed-ur-Rehman, Secretary of Kashmir Creative Education Foundation, Pulwama, called on Mr. N. N. Vohra, Governor, at Raj Bhavan.

Mr. Rehman briefed before the Governor about the activities of the Foundation relating to enlarging legal awareness, promotion of education, youth activities and sports. Mr. Rehman, who is also Chief Executive of the HBN Channel briefed before the Governor about the various programmes telecasted by this private local TV channel, particularly in South Kashmir, for spreading education and the message of peace and development.

He stated that the other main focus areas of this channel are group discussions on the issues relating to governance, public grievances and developmental needs of the people. They are organizing peace conferences at school and college levels and want promotion of education. The Governor observed that while the media has to play an important role in creating awareness among the people about the ongoing programmes and policies of the Government and in highlighting the problems and needs of the public at large, the most crucial role that a TV channel within the Valley can play would be to foster and extend the goals of a sound educational system, as this sector is required to play a vital role in reviving the society and restoring its erstwhile balance. He added that private channels like HBN can contribute in a big way towards securing these objectives.
