Tamil Nadu Chopper Crash: 5 Died, 2 Injured, Condition of CDS Bipin Rawat, His Wife Not Known

Srinagar 08 December (KNB): Srinagar 08 December (KNB): At least five died, and two others have reportedly injured In a helicopter crash incident in the Niligiris forest area of Tamil Nadu in which CDS Gen. Bipin Rawat, his wife, and others were on board.

The accident took place at Niligiris hills in Tamil Nadu when the Air Force’s Mi-17V5 was carrying CDS Rawat, his wife and other staff members in it, as per Indian Air Force. 

In the incident, five are said to have died, and two others were injured as per Forest Minister of Tamil Nadu. Regarding the condition of the Bipin Rawat and his wife, Madhulika Rawat, who was also in the helicopter, are not known yet.

In the wake of the incident, people who were in the vicinity of the accident site rushed to the spot of helicopter crash and recovered few bodies from the helicopter’s wreckage along with injured ones.  

In the initial stage, the ones on board have reportedly been identified as CDS Gen Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat, Brig LS Lidder, Lt Col Harjinder Singh, NK Gursewak Singh, NK Jitendra Kr, L/Naik Vivek Kumar, L/Naik B Sai Teja & Hav Satpal.

Following the incident, IAF said that an Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident.

“I am deeply shocked & disheartened on hearing the army chopper with CDS General Bipin Rawat and 13 others has met with an accident near Coonoor. I’ve instructed the local administration to provide all the help needed in rescue operations even as I’m rushing to the spot,” said Tamil Nadu CM, M K Stalin in a tweet. (KNB)
