“Wives of ex-militants should be given passport to visit Pakistan”
Jammu, Jan 28 : Ruling PDP lawmaker today demanded that the controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act should be revoked from the state of Jammu and Kashmir as it will help in restoring peace in the state and “fear of armed forces” will go away from people’s minds.
MLA Wachi Aijaz Mir said that stone pelters booked in 2016 unrest should be given amnesty, former militants who have surrendered and returned through Nepal route should be rehabilitated, their wives should be given passport so that they could see their family in Pakistan.
According to KNS Correspondent covering the assembly proceedings, Mir was speaking in Lower House of legislature during award of grants on home, tourism and other departments which are held by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
“Afspa should be revoked from those areas where security situation has improved in the state. This step will help in restoration of peace and will remove fear from the minds of people,” Mir said.
Mir urged the government to legalize Nepal route so that the militants who surrender and return from that route are benefited under the rehabilitation policy.
“The Nepal route needs to be legalized as most of the ex-militants return from this route. These militants are made to visit police stations every day. It should stop so that they live peaceful life as they are already facing social problems.”
“Wives of these militants who hail from Pakistan should also be given passport and permission so that they can visit their families there,” he said.
About the youth who have been booked under stone pelting charges and then jailed, Mir said that general amnesty should be given to the first time stone pelters. (KNS)
