Mufti ends his long suspense, embraces BJP

MALIK SAMEED

“Itna mat soch khudabaksh…..ke soch gehri aur iraade kamjor ho jaye”

Over two months have passed, but government formation in J & K was no where in sight, now the long silence is over. While the picture was clear but, Mufti Sayeed always seems to be thinking and thinking! Every other day some or the other new terms or conditions seem to be cropping up. This long wait has also given a boost, some politician, to give some statement or the other and weaken/cast doubts on the PDP-BJP coalition, which in our editorial earlier, we had termed as a ‘Win Win Coalition for the Awam of J & K’.

At this juncture Mufti Sayeed and team need to do some thinking with a clear head. Timing is very important in politics, had the BJP conducted elections in Delhi in July 2014, riding on the clean sweep in the Parliament Election in Delhi, they would have got  60 seats going by the trends in assembly segments. But, like Mufti Sayeed they got into the scheming’’ and thinking mode, mistimed it, allowed AAP to bounce back, and were thrown out for a six over the mid wicket fence.

If Mufti Sayeed fears that he will be punished by the Kashmiri electorate collaborating with the BJP. There is no going back as it is PDP has already teamed up BJP in the recent Rajya Sabha elections and that for the upcoming Legislative Council elections.

It would be better for Mufti Sayeed to understand a few basic facts. Firstly, a record turnout in the elections was not for anything other than ‘the people’s desire for development and good governance’. Secondly, contentious issues of Article 370, Kashmir as such, AFSPA cannot be solved by just waving  a magic wand, they will take time, maybe years and decades. By just delaying, government formation on this pretext, will not accrue any significant advantage, but will only make the public more exasperated.

Experience shows that the people at the grass root level crave for ‘roti’’, ‘kapda’ aur ‘makan’, while its fashionable to sit in the drawing room of a posh house and discuss ‘masla e kashmir’. To cite an example, if you were in Delhi during the assembly elections and asked any cab driver, you could sense the AAP Tsunami. They all remembered the 49 days AAP government, which had brought down corruption and hate collection to near zero. This is the power of good governance

The people of Kashmir are looking forward to development , jobs and a corruption free society and put right the issues which can only be solved in years, involve multiple stakeholders, legal complexities, aside for the time being. Give people a good corruption free government or be ready to face the judgement of the people like it happened to BJP in Delhi.
