Rajya Sabha polls have exposed PDP’s blind opportunism – NC Spokesman
Srinagar: National Conference on Monday said that PDP Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s remarks that aim to justify PDP’s unholy alliance with BJP under the fig-leaf of J&K’s development are desperate attempts to justify the unjustifiable. NC Spokesman Junaid Mattu said PDP Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed should stop humiliating the people of Kashmir by portraying them as beggars devoid of principles and ideology. “PDP is trying its best to universally brand Kashmiris as greedy opportunists to justify its alliance with the BJP but it is unambiguously clear that PDP has yet again sold its soul for a shot at the Chief Minister’s chair”, NC Spokesman said.
The NC Spokesman said the recently held Rajya Sabha polls had exposed PDP’s blind opportunism and ridiculed the drama of negotiations between PDP and BJP over political issues. “The only negotiations that were held between PDP and BJP were about the CM’s Chair for Mufti Sahab and about the sharing of Cabinet Portfolios between the two parties. Everything else is an unimaginative lie of a guilty PDP. If both parties wholeheartedly supported each other in the Rajya Sabha polls, what is stopping them from forming the Government? Were the apparently pending ideological differences on issues not impediments to a joint effort in the Rajya Sabha polls? This is sheer hypocrisy on PDP’s part”, the NC Spokesman added
“PDP’s rhetoric over development and governance is ridiculous. During PDP’s rule in the State under Mufti Sayeed development of the State came to a grinding halt. And this is acceptable to PDP. Back then they took J&K to the infamy of being the most corrupt State in the country and now they will leave no stone unturned to plunge J&K into the morass of corruption all over again. Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s new-found love for the BJP and RSS is primarily based on the prospective personal financial interests of the Mufti family and a few covert financiers and sponsors of PDP who are least concerned about the sentiments of the people”, the NC Spokesman added.
The NC Spokesman said the stark contrast between PDP’s pre-election opposition to BJP and post-election infatuation with BJP represented yet another volte face by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in a career that is riddled with contradictions, hypocrisy and rank opportunism. “Mufti Sahab was instrumental in damaging Article 370 and invoking AFSPA in J&K. The irony is that the same Mufti Sahab is today trying to emotionally exploit the people by pretending to be negotiating with the BJP on these issues. Mufti Sahab is by conviction an integrationist who has always remained opposed to J&K’s State Subject Laws and Special Status. No political leader has subverted democracy in J&K more often than Mufti Sahab in a destructive, disruptive political career spanning more than five decades” the NC Spokesman further stated.
“If BJP has to harm Article 370, they won’t find a better and more willing consultant than Mufti Sahab and the PDP. PDP won’t think twice before bartering the political rights of our people for an additional Cabinet Portfolio not to speak of the CM’s Chair. In the Assembly Elections Mehbooba Mufti repeatedly called BJP a communal party and top PDP leaders sought votes against the BJP. Today the same BJP moral sermonizers have become the middlemen between PDP and BJP and carry messages back and forth from J&K to New Delhi. PDP will pay a very heavy price for humiliating the people and taking them for a ride. The party stands completely exposed now”, NC Spokesman Junaid Mattu added.
