Lanoora Became the First Village in J&K to Go Cashless

Budgam: In the wake of demonetisation, a village in Budgam district has gone entirely cashless by taking all business transactions online.

According to the authorities, Lanoora village in Budgam district of the state is the first village in Jammu and Kashmir to go cashless.

Jaffar, a barber in the village, says: “Post demonitisation, I gave people haircuts on udhar (credit). The first day after the demonetisation, I did a business of Rs 450, but carried no money home, as everything was done on credit.”

However, “Mohsin Nazim and Miss Yasira Jan district managers of CSC e-Governance Services India Ltd, provided training to all the VLEs of district Budgam on 8th dec 2016 at Conference Hall in DC Office Budgam”.

The impact of demonetisation was extreme. Kashmir Scenario spoke to farmers, villagers, shopkeepers, and all voiced the struggle. However, most never used the card before demonetisation.

Meanwhile, Muzamil Khurshid Ali was awarded certificate by Mohammad Rouf district information officer, for his efforts of making village cashless.

“We are emphasizing on merchants and they should be able to accept payments other than cash, their is five modes of payments UPI, USSD, e-Wallet, Debit/Credit/Prepaid cards issued by Bank and Aadhaar enable payment system (AePS)” said Mohsin Nazim, District manager CSC e-Governance Services India Ltd.
