Killer Rehabilitation Policy

TKSNN: The present government policy of rehabilitation of those Kashmiris who have gone to other side of the border to Azad Kashmir and Pakistan during the decades of armed insurgency is proving to be a disaster for its beneficiaries. The Omar Abdullah government had announced the rehabilitation policy with fanfare allowing the Kashmiris to return back to the valley.
Most of those who had gone to the other side of the border and have been living there since past two decades, had witnessed this policy as a ray of hope to return back to their native birth burgs. The things for these individuals have changed over these years, most of them have married across the borders. Now they have families with wives and children to cater. Some of the individuals who returned with their families have encountered and experienced numerous problems.
The government did not allow them to come back legally, so most of them returned illegally through Nepal. Thus their travel documents were snatched by the police. The case of the Pakistani brides is worst. Most of them are disallowed even to visit their families. In a recent brazen incident the Pakistani wife of Abdul Majeed of Bandipora who returned with his family tried to commit suicide by sprinkling kerosene on her body. She is in critical condition, battling for her life now. She was suffering from depression for sometime after the authorities disallowed her to visit her home.
