Academy hosts all- women musical programme, mushaira on IWD

JAMMU, MARCH 8: On the International Women’s Day, J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages today hosted an all-women composite musical programme ‘Tumhare Liye’ at the K L Saigal Hall of the Academy here. An all-women composite mushaira, Bazm e Shairaat, was also held at the Academy office in Srinagar.

As the artists sang different numbers in Hindi, Dogri, Urdu, Kashmiri, Kishtwari, Gojri, Pahari and Punjabi the melodious voices kept the audience spell bound. The jam packed hall reverberated with applause on the fine rendition of ecstatic poetry and music.

Artists who performed at the event included Asha Kesar (Dogri), Alam Ara (Kishtwari), Hasina Akhtar (Kashmiri), Aksa Chaman (Urdu), Sonali Dogra (Punjabi), Chanchal Sharma (Pahari), Rukhsana Kousar (Gojri) and Marina Jamwal (Hindi). The accompanists included Darbari Lal (Tabla), Rakesh Anand (Flute), Vicky Gill (synthesiser) and Vijay Anand (Dholak).Academy hosts all- women musical programme at Jammu-8

Prof. Ved Ghai presided over the function while Dr. Rita Jitendra was the chief guest. Among others present on the occasion were Prof. Nilambar Dev Sharma, N. D. Jamwal, Aamir Ali, Secretary J&K State Social Welfare Board, Khalid Bashir, Secretary J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages and a large number of writers and artists. Meetali Gupta anchored the programme.

At the Srinagar office of the Academy, an all-women composite mushiara was held to mark the occasion. About two dozen poetesses recited their poems and received admiration from an appreciative audience. These include Rukhsana Jabeen who presided over the mushiara, Shabnam Ashai, Nikhat Nazar, Parveen Raja, Farida Koul, Neelofar Naz Nehvi, Nighat Sahiba, Shaista Akhtar, Saba Shaheen, Roohi Jan, Sadaf Ghazal, Razia Ashraf, Zainab Alghazalzai, Rabia Bano, Sakeena Bano, Jameela Akhtar, Rehana Azizi, Zareen Ara, Shazia Akhtar, Bashir un Nisa Basharat, Jasbeer Kour, Gurjeet Kour and Navjeet Kour. Similar all-women composite mushiara will be held at Jammu on March 10.

The Academy also presented a cultural programme at the Police Auditorium Gulshan Grounds as part of the celebrations of the International Women’s Day jointly with J&K State Social Welfare Board.
