HAZRATBAL MASTER PLAN IN LIMBO

GOVT. SHRUGS SHOULDERS, SAYS NO FUNDS AVAILABLE

Srinagar, Sep 2 (KNS): The state authorities have put the master plan for the Hazratbal Shrine here in limbo- stating that there are no funds available for implementation of the plan for the place that houses relic of the holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

According to the KNS correspondent, the issue of Hazratbal Shrine master plan was raised in Legislative council during the autumn session with the concern raised over the huge rush of people being witnessed on almost all congregational prayers.

The government later proposed a master plan for the shrine- prioritizing that the growing rush of devotees be accommodated sans any hassle. The master plan for Hazratbal Shrine proposed to provide an additional capacity of 6, 500 persons inside the shrine.

Dr Shiekh Mustafa Kamal submitted the question wherein he asked the state government that whether the master plan for Hazratbal is awaiting implementation due to the scarcity of funds. The government through the Haj and Auqaf Ministry while responding to the question stated that the proposed plan of the famous shrine where the holy relic of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was believed to be stationed had already been drawn up by the chief architect and it had got the consent of all major stakeholders and that the plan is awaiting

Implementation due to fund shortage. The proposed master plan aims at adding area over the Sheeshkhana of the shrine with a capacity of 1,500 persons.

The design is also focused on the construction of a semi-basement and ground floor behind the southern archway. This will provide an additional capacity of 375 persons and special zone for women.

The plain includes construction of staircase from terrace floor slabs to open air prayer space. There is a suggestion of removal of Sheeshkhana stairs in the shrine to get additional space for prayers. (KNS)
