Former sarpanch shot dead in south Kashmir’s Anantnag

Ex- congress sarpanch was killed this evening in Dooru area of south Anantnag district of south Kashmir.

Police said Sajad Malik alias Bitta was killed in Dooru area of Anantnag after he allegedly snatched a rifle from a cop.




“In an anti-militancy operation in Dooru area of Anantnag, a militant has been killed,” an Army official said, as reported by the PTI news agency.

A resident of Batagund near Verinag, Malik was in police custody in Dooru Police station for his alleged role in pro-freedom protests during the ongoing unrest, said his family.

He had dissociated himself from Congress and vowed to work for the freedom movement during a rally held in Verinag earlier.

However, police refused that Malik, a former militant, was in their custody.


Meanwhile, Congress president G A Mir called it a political killing.
