Traffic police issues advisory for school transport

‘Driver with less than 5 years can’t drive a school vehicle’

Srinagar: With schools in Kashmir reopening after a long Winter break, the traffic police which manages traffic in Srinagar has made it mandatory for all educational institutions and bus operators /owners engaged with school transport to strictly adhere to the following instructions, to ensure safe and comfortable school transport:

 

    • No bus belonging to or hired by an educational institution shall be driven by a driver who has “NOT”:
    • less than five years of experience.
    • challaned more than twice for a minor traffic offence.
    • been challaned for any offence relating to rash and negligent driving.
    • All such drivers to be dressed in a distinctive uniform.
    • All buses in the duty of an educational institute to carry a suitable inscription.
    • No bus shall be permitted to operate without a qualified conductor being present at all times.
    • All school buses shall be provided with a teacher /two bus monitors to take care of the students for to and fro journey to school. A class XIth / XIIth student should be the “Bus Monitor”.
    • All school buses shall be fitted with the speed governors in working order to ensure that the school bus do not exceed the speed limits of 40 kms per hour.
    • The owner of the bus and Principals should ensure that every school bus carries a suitable photograph of an authorized driver.




  • The Principal will appoint one of the officer / official under him as transport superior who will regulate the operation of the school bus and will ensure that no bus is carrying the students more than the limit prescribed.
  • The owner of the bus and the Principal shall ensure that First Aid provisions are available on the school buses all the time.
  • In each bus a provision of at least one parent is evolved to oversee the conduct of the driver.
