Shopian, Feb 27(KNB): A top commander amoung two militants killed in an encounter that broke out in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday.
As per the reports, a joint team of army, SOG and CRPF personnel launched a search operation in Meemender village, on the outskirts of town around 5 am following credible inputs about the presence of militants.
The militants opened fire on the forces as the operation was in progress, the forces retaliated triggering an encounter.
Pertinently, two militants affiliated with Jaish-e-Muhammad were killed in the encounter, Arms and ammunition were recovered while searches are going on in the area.
Meanwhile clashes erupted near the gunfight site soon after the encounter ended.
Authorities have suspended the internet service in the area.
