Srinagar 21 January (KNB): Before a day of likely snowfall, which has been predicted by the MeT department from 22nd January’s evening, the temperature settles again at the biting cold of -7.0 degree Celsius on Wednesday night in Srinagar, rendering the water bodies, taps and pipelines frozen.
As per the MeT department, the temperature in Srinagar plummeted to -7.0 degree Celsius last night making the cold conditions persist in the summer capital following Tuesday night’s -6.0 degree Celsius.
However, the wet spell, according to the weather forecaster will be of moderate-intensity in Kashmir valley, is going to be witnessed due to the Western Disturbance affecting J&K and the Ladakh’s Kargil district on 22nd evening.
Furthermore, the temperature recorded in Pahalgam was -9.3°C Gulmarg -7.8°C, Qazigund -8.8°C, Kupwara -5.9°C, Kokernag -6.9°C, Leh -13.5°C.
Pertinent to mention that Kashmir is going through Chillai Kalan’s period, during which the cold usually remains harsh. However, this winter’s Chillai Kalan witnessed the intense cold following the mercury dipping to the lowest of -8.4°C, making the coldest night in nearly three decades in Srinagar. (KNB)
