One of 10 Indian soldiers feared dead after an avalanche six days ago in the remote Himalayas has been miraculously rescued alive, officials said.
He was found days after authorities said there was little chance of finding survivors following the Siachen Glacier accident last week.
“In the ongoing rescue operation at Siachen, of the ten soldiers buried under ice Lance Naik Hanamanthappa Koppad has been found alive, all the other soldiers are regrettably no more with us”said General D.S. Hooda in a statement Monday.
“The medical condition of Lance Naik Hanamanthappa Koppad is critical but all attempts are being made to evacuate him to RR Hospital in the morning. We hope the miracle continues”, statement said.
