Showkat Gayoor, son of a legendary Scholar, philanthropist, educationist, journalist, writer, poet & a revolutionary political & social leader Syed Ghulam Rasool Gayoor Andrabi has joined Politics when he gave up his Govt Job as a Civil Engineer in 2005 when his renowned father was assassinated by un-known gunman at his native village at Ratnipora Pulwama.
His political journey has been dynamic.
Showkat Gayoor worked as a District President Pulwama for J&K National Conference from 2005 to 2008. He was not given mandate by National Conference in 2008 Assembly elections despite of his father’s sacrifice in National Conference who had worked in NC for more than three decades.
Gayoor made his entry in PDP on the offer of Late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Sahab, who was also a good friend of Late Ghulam Rasool Gayoor. Showkat Gayoor worked as a General Secretary of PDP youth wing & worked through out the State round the clock. His efforts made possible the win or MLA Pulwama Mohd Khalil Band in 2008 & 2014 Assembly elections.
But once PDP joined governance with BJP it has not since then given due to Showkat Gayoor and in a way his sacrifices and works on Grassroot have been forgotten.
” Showkat Gayoor has held the fort of PDP from South Kashmir in troubled times but the fact of matter he has not been given his due .Elevated him to important position is need of time which will be good for both him and PDP.We welcome the talk being initiated of him being next VC Waqaf,” stated a political analyst from South Kashmir.
The fact of the matter is Showkat Gayoor Remains unsung hero of PDP.
