‘Shaam-e-Sufiyana, a cultural event was on Sunday organized by the SR event management company here at Tagore hall, Srinagar. The aim of the event was to highlight the importance of dying Kashmiri Sufiyana and give a new fillip to the battered Kashmiri culture.
Amid the jam packed audience, artists from across the valley performed in an evening filled with soul soothing Sufi music. Young artists presented items like Kashmiri folk souzina, Kashmiri Rouf, Ladishah Folktales, Chhakkri, Shehnayi, and Bacche Ingam.

A skit was performed by a group of young kids depicting Kashmiris and Angrez (Britishers), when they use to visit Kashmir. It was considered one of the best performances at the event that almost inspired one and all.

Saim Bhat, a Kashmiri boy who has also sung in some Bollywood movies enthralled the audience with his mesmerizing voice.  He also released his new song ‘Wasiy-e-Gulan’ at the event as a tribute to the great poetess of Kashmir, Habba khatoon. Parveen Azad also performed at the occasion with her ever sizzling voice.

Last but not the least, when it is our well-known comedian Rayees Mohiddin performing on   stage, the mood inside the hall is predictable. It all started with laughs and ended with laughs. There are very less words to describe Rayees’s talent.
For  a 110-year-old Ghulam Qadir Shah, this event brought smiles on his face. Forgotten by the successive governments since 1975–when he registered with government as an artist hoping to get some assistance- was given a life time achievement award for dedicating his life to the performing art of ‘Dambael’.

The organizers of the event thanked MLA Wachi Aijaz Ahmed Mir for his unconditional support in making this event possible in a less span of time.

“We tried our best to choose those artists who have never been facilated by the government, it is basically the cause base event and we only tried to give honor to the artists,” said Malik Sameed, Director Quality Assurance.
