Rainfall Likely To Continue Till Eid: MeT

Heavy rainfall in Kashmir valley since last night has created panic among people about the possibility of fresh floods. The continuous rainfall has resulted in chilly conditions across the Valley.

The upper reaches including Amarnath cave and its periphery besides Sheshnag, Mahaguns, Pisso top, Panjtrani and other heights in Pahalgam received fresh light to moderate snowfall.

The heavy downpour has affected many low lying areas of Srinagar and has left many low lying areas in a cesspool of water because of the water logging.

According to MeT officials, there could be isolated rain till September 24, a day before Eid-ul-Azha, and then the weather will be dry for subsequent three days in Kashmir valley.

“There could be isolated or widespread rain during the next 48 hours in Jammu region and scattered or isolated rain in Ladakh during the next 24 hours.”

As per MeT spokesperson, Kashmir recorded highest 26.2mm rainfall during the past 24 hours.Upper heights received snow resulting in drop down in temperature which settled at 6.6 degree, half a notch below normal. Maximum temperature at Gulmarg yesterday was 16.2 degree.
