Protests at JVC against Doctors after thrashed patient and attendants

Srinagar, June 28 : A group of doctors allegedly thrashed an ailing patient and two attendants including a lady behind closed doors at JVC Bemina Srinagar and to cover their illegitimate act, the doctors went on strike alleging that an attendant misbehaved with a doctor during night hours.

Scores of attendants staged a protest in the premises of JVC Bemina alleging that a group of doctors thrashed a patient and two attendants mercilessly. “During night hours a patient Muhammad Latif Dar a resident of Shalteng Srinagar who was admitted in the hospital’s ward number 6, bed number one complained of pain in his legs. An attendant Reyaz Ahmed from Kupwara who was accompanying another patient rushed downstairs to get the doctor where the doctor scolded him for disturbing his sleep,” said protesters.

Reyaz Ahmed, the attendant who had requested doctor to see the patient told CNS that the doctor not only misbehaved with him but also aksed him to leave the hospital. “Yes, It’s true the pitch of my voice was too high when I told the doctor that he is not doing justice with his profession,” he said.

Reports said that at around 10 on Saturday morning some 8 to 10 doctors entered into ward one asking all the attendants except Reyaz Ahmed and his sister Shakeela Bano to leave the ward for some time. “I was shocked and cried when these goons (group of doctors) started beating my brother. When I tried to stop them, one of the doctors slapped me. I raised hue and cry and all the attendants who were outside rushed towards the ward and saw everything with open eyes. Ask these attendant what happened and how these doctors thrash and abuse me and my brother,” Shakeela said.

The attendants reportedly raised slogans against the doctors inside the hospital ward and sensing trouble the doctors fled from the ward. All the attendants assembled in hospital premises and demanded stern action against the erring doctors. The attendants rushed to police post Bemina and lodged an FIR against the doctors. “Yes, we have registered an FIR vide number 171/2015 under section 341, 323 RPC against the doctors and investigation has been taken up,” Chowki in charge police post Bemina Waseem Ahmed told CNS.

The irony is that the doctors in a bid to cover their crime went on a strike adding to the woes of patients. Besides, both the patients namely Muhamamd Rafiq and another patient Ghulam Muhammad Shah, the one Reyaz Ahmed was accompanying were ‘forcibly’ discharged from the hospital.

Terming the incident unfortunate, Medical Superintendent JVC, Dr Ajaz Ahmed Baba said that some attendants created mess in hospital ward and misbehaved with a doctor. “If they had any grievances they could have approached me. There is a proper way to get things done,” he said adding that the doctors also have lodged an FIR against the attendants.

Dr Baba confirmed that two patients were discharged from the hospitals. “One of them was suffering from endocytosis arthritis and we referred him to SKIMS Soura,” he said.

“Yes, Doctors have lodged a counter FIR (172/2015 under section 353,427 of RPC) against the attendants,” Chowki Incharge Bemina Police Post Waseem Ahmed told CNS.
