Protests against Sainik, Pandit colonies, new industrial policy

Clashes erupt in Anatnag, downtown, two injured, Mirwaiz condemns

Srinagar, Jun 17 : Following the post Friday protest call given jointly by the separatist leaders, people Fridaystaged protest at different places against the ‘government proposals including establishment of Sainik, Pandit colonies and new industrial policies’.

The protest call was jointly given by the chairman’s of both the factions of Hurriyat incuding Hurriyat (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani, Hurriyat (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik.




As soon as the Friday congregation ended in Gow Kadal Masjid, JKLF activists staged protest in Maisuma area.

The protest according to a senior leader of JKLF was joined by the people from all walks including the members of federation.

The protesters led by Advocate Bashir Ahmad Bhat while chanting anti-government slogans marched towards Budhshah Chowk. “The protesters after staging protest at Budhshah Chowk dispersed peacefully,” eye-witnesses said.

Various other JKLF leaders including Zahoor Ahmad Bhat, brother of Muhammad Maqbool Bhat who was hanged and buried in New Delhi Tihar Jail, Bashir Ahmad Kashmiri and several districtpresidents and others were part of the protest.

Hurriyat (G) activists also staged protests against what they termed as the conspiracy to dilute the special status of the state.

The activists assembled at Hyderpora and raised slogans against the government.
As soon as the Friday congregation ended in historic Jamia Masjid, the activists of Hurriyat (M) assembled outside and staged protests against the government plans.

The activists chanted anti-government and pro-freedom slogans.

Meanwhile, a youth was injured during the clashes between youth and forces in downtown area of old city Srinagar.

Reports said that scores of youth took to streets and raised pro-freedom slogans. “Police resorted to tear smokes shells to disperse the youth who were throwing stone to them,” report said.




He as per reports was shifted to Srinagar’s SMHS hospital for treatment.

Chairman of Hurriyat (M) Mirwaiz Dr. Molvi Muhammad Umar Farooq condemned the brutal use of force by government forces in various areas of old city especially around Jamia Masjid, Srinagar in which a number of persons have got injured.

In a statement issued to KNS, Mirwaiz has described it as completely fascist and dictatorial attitude of the government to harass and coerce into submission the population of Srinagar.
Meanwhile, protests were also held in Anantnag district of south Kashmir on Friday prayers against the government plans.

Demonstrators shouting slogans in favour of Kashmir’s freedom and against the plans to establish Sainik and Pandit colonies marched from Ahle-Hadith Jamia Masjid to Lal Chowk in the town.
According to media reports, youth took to streets and staged a demonstration at Reshi Bazar near Hanfia Jamia Masjid in Anantnag town to protest against the establishment of Pandit, Sainik colonies and new industrial policy.

Nonetheless, Police used force to disperse demonstrations in the area. “Police disbursed chili grenades and tear smoke shells,” reports said.

A youth sustained injuries in his eye during the clashes between youth and forces in the area.
“The youth suffered eye injury after forces fired pellet guns to disperse the protesters in Reshi Bazar area of the town in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district,” reports said. (KNS)
