Minister for Rural Development Abdul Haq Khan, Monday, September 21, directed the district officers in Kulgam to priorities flood related works so as to avoid flood like situation in future.
Minister passed these directions during his inspection to various development works including Veshaw Nallah.
He asked the officers to construct bunds across the Veshaw Nallah under MGNREGA so that the works under the scheme are beneficial for the people.
“People come up with proposals of protection bunds, paths etc. forget these small works. Let’s do some useful works for the society and create assets in our locality,” he said.
He said such works will serve two purposes. “One people will get jobs and second it will protect the area from floods,” he said and emphasized on the people that the works so undertaken will be productive and durable.
Khan asked officers and the people not to resort to useless works under MGNREGA but create assets for their villages under the scheme.
He said an allocation of 50 crores has been approved for District Kulgam out of which the allocation for DH Pora is to the tune of Rs 13 Crores.
He urged the general public to keep vigil on the implementation of the works done under MGNREGS as the government is committed to work honestly and dedicatedly.
The minister stressed on the people to act as watchdogs by keeping eye on the developmental works.
Minister also directed the district authorities to axe all the female popular trees as soon as possible on court directions.
Later on, the Minister took a review meeting of the developmental works with the officers of Rural Development Department and prevailed upon them to ensure the completion of 100% target.
Earlier Khan inaugurated Community Facility Centre at DH Pora, Kulgam and dedicated it for the public use.
The inaugural function was attended by the Member of Parliament, Nazir Ahmad Laway, Minister of State for PHE, Abdul Majeed Padroo, Director, RDD Tasaduq Jeelani, ADC, Kulgam, DPO, ACD, SDM, DH Pora, and other district, tehsil and block level officers. This was also attended by a large section of people.
Haq Khan, while addressing a public rally, said that an allocation of Rs. 50 Crores under MGNREGS has been approved for District Kulgam out of which the allocation for DH Pora is to the tune of Rs 13 Crores.
On the occasion he directed the ACD, Kulgam to revise the plans of those villages where the allocation has been low and where there is capacity for creation of durable assets.
He assured that the government will provide money for the developmental works undertaken by the Rural Development Department. He urged the general public to keep vigil on the implementation of the works done under MGNREGS as the government is committed to work honestly and dedicatedly.
Khan further informed that the government will give additional Rs 7-10 lacs to each Panchayat Halqa in addition to the already made allocations. He said that his priority is to give a sigh of relief to the flood affected victims.
On the implementation of the Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan, the Minister said that, henceforth, the department would ensure that100% coverage of latrine facility in each village.
Haq Khan also directed the Director, Rural Development Department to ensure the fencing, electrification and requisite furniture for the Community Facility Centre.
Besides, cheques were also distributed among the fire affected victims under IAY scheme.
