Police thrash Greater Kashmir journalist in Srinagar

In an act of police high-handedness, a senior journalist of Greater Kashmir and his wife were Monday assaulted by the security guards of Jammu and Kashmir Agriculture Minister Ghulam Nabi Hanjura.

Javed Malik, a senior editor with the Greater Kashmir, was travelling in his car with his wife in Bagh-e-Mehtab area of Srinagar when the cops thrashed and hurled abuses at him.

Despite proving his identity, the cops punched Malik and misbehaved with his wife.

“They (cops) were so rude. They kept on beating me despite my wife pleading before them,” Malik said.

This, however, is not the first such incident in the valley. Many such cases have been reported in the recent past, and a number of journalists have complained of the police and paramilitary forces’ high handedness.

Few years ago, another Greater Kashmir journalist was manhandled by the cops when he was covering a protest in Srinagar.
