Clashes broke out between non locals students and police when they (non local students)  tried to march to the gates of  the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar on Tuesday.
According to police officer “A group of NIT students, all of them non-locals, marched to the gates of the institute shouting slogans.

“A senior police officer advised them not to go out of the campus as that could result in a law and order problem. The students refused to listen and some of them manhandled the officer,” he said.
He said police resorted to a baton charge to disperse the students, in which seven of them sustained minor injuries and were given first aid inside the campus.
No one was hospitalised as the injuries were minor, the police officer added.

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was deployed later in the night as a precautionary measure to prevent any escalation of tension, the officer said.
