Mysterious incidents of braid chopping continues in Valley

SRINAGAR, OCT 5:With no breakthrough in nabbing the people involved, the mysterious incidents of braid chopping continues in Valley.




In Baramulla today morning a Braid chopping incident took place at Khwaja Bagh, following which Police party went on spot and inspected the scene of occurrence and started preliminary investigation into the matter which revealed that the victim is a teenage girl (name withheld ) living with her family in a rented accommodation in Khawaja Bagh Baramulla.

Police said that the family is hailing originally from Uri and father of the girl works in Police department adding that the girl reported that her Braid was chopped during the night, however she was sleeping in the same room with her parents and there seemed to be no possibility of any outsider making entry into the room.

In Pattan area of Baramulla district, locals of claimed that they caught alleged braid choppers in their respective areas. The locals were reluctant to hand over the alleged chopper to police which triggered clashes. Police resort to tear gas shelling and cane charges to disperse the agitated locals. However the Baramulla –Srinagar highway remained closed as the clashes between locals and police last for long time.




Reports said that dozens of locals caught hold of a non local alleging him of being a braid chopper soon after hair of one lady were mysteriously chopped off in the area. Locals alleged that the accused sneaked into one of the residential houses and chopped off hair of a young lady.

In Ganderbal district locals mistook a youth as a braid chopper who was beaten. Reports said that a youth was last evening beaten up in Kujar area on suspicious that he was a braid Chopper.

Police said “local of Kujar area caught hold of a youth who they alleged was a braid Chopper. On getting information a police team reached the spot and suspicious person was brought into the custody.”

SSP Ganderbal in a press briefing said, “After preliminary questioning, it became clear that the youth Muzaffar Ahmad Wani hailing from Khalmulla Ganderbal had gone there to meet his girlfriend resident of Nunar Ganderbal presently residing in the house of her sister at Kujjar Ganderbal where he was spotted and taken as a braid chopper.” An FIR 202/2017 U/S 147, 323, 341 RPC was registered and further investigation into the matter is going on, police said.

In Samboora area of Pampore scores of people hit streets to protest the incidents of braid chopping which resulted in ding dong battle between forces and protesters. Police swung to action and lobbed tear gas shells to disperse the protesters.

In Bandipora, the family members of the woman (name withheld) said that an unknown person tried to cut her braid as soon as she came out of the washroom around 6 am.

Pertinently police has already constituted an investigation team, however no breakthrough so far to crack the case (PTK)
