Militants on Sunday fired some shots before escaping from a cordon laid by government forces in a village in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
Reports said that forces launched a cordon and search operation in Machow village of Yaripora area of the district following inputs about the presence of militants.
However, people took to streets and clashed with the forces to help the militants escape.
They said that militants, believed to be two in number, fired some shots before escaping from the village.
A witness said that forces fired pellets and lobbed teargas shells to disperse the protesters.
