Militants and their families are not same: CM Mehbooba

Had to use ‘excessive force’ only to save property, lives of masses

Srinagar, Dec 14 : Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti Wednesday said they had to use the “excessive force in some situations” only to reduce the maximum losses and ensure safety and security of the people of the whole state of Jammu and Kashmir.

“We all are hurt. Civilians as well as security forces got injured. So in such a situation there was a need to use some force as it is our responsibility to save the lives and property of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Hadn’t we used force, the magnitude of killings would have been higher,” Mehbooba said while addressing a passing out parade of commandos at Commandos Training Center (CTC) Lethpora Pulwama.

She added that she won’t deny that “excessive force” wasn’t used, but normalcy has started prevailing and hoped that police would cooperate and change its behavior while dealing with people.

According to KNS correspondent, the Chief Minister said there is a need to focus more on the youths and sought help from the police and other law and order machinery to help in restoring peace and the process of reconciliation.

“There is no option other than reconciliation. PSA, AFSPA are temporary. Help me to create an atmosphere in J&K that we don’t need to slap PSA on elderly persons or even teenagers or students but only against criminals, druggists and smugglers. No one from outside will come to help us. We have to help ourselves on our own. Police has a main role in it,” she said.

She asked police not to look everyone though the prism of suspicion. “Militant aur militant ki family mein hume farq karna padega, unko ek hi nazar se nahin dekh sakte (We have to differentiate between militants and their families. We cannot look at both in the same manner). We even need to differentiate between habitual stone pelters and his family and a student. Deal people differently. Differentiate between a militant and their sons or daughters or other family members. Help my government to create a peaceful and conducive atmosphere in J&K,” she added. (KNS)
