Srinagar 22 February (KNB): Social Activist Neelam Neelam Gash and veteran journalist Malik Sajid on Saturday were chosen as President and Vice President, respectively, of the Mental Health Action by People MAP’s maiden unit in J&K during its virtual launch.

Neelam Gash will be heading the MAP’s maiden unit, which has been started in J&K with Malik Sajid, a journalist, who is Editor in Chief of Kashmir News Bureau, as it’s vice president.

Dr Krishna Giresh, founder and chairman of (Mental Health Action by People) MAP, headed a virtual program yesterday for launching its Jammu and Kashmir chapter, which aims to provide clinical support and different other facilities to those suffering from mental health problems.

During the virtual launching ceremony of Mental Health Action by People (MAP) for Kashmir chapter — which was attended by several professionals from different working fields — Dr Krishnan Giresh announced the names of officeholders.

However, in the names of officeholders, activist and MAP Executive Committee member Neelam Gaash was declared as President for Jammu and Kashmir chapter, while Journalists Ajaz Ahmad War and Malik Sajid, Dr. Arif Maghribi and Raja Muneeb were declared as Vice Presidents.

Furthermore, Syed Muneer Qadri was declared as General Secretary and Syed Raahat Rafai was declared as Treasurer.

The posts of Media Secretaries were given to esteemed journalists–Rameez Makhdoomi and Bilal Bashir Bhat. While posts of Organizing Secretary were given to Advocate Syed Junaid Saadat and Sarwar Malik and the Joint Secretary posts were given to Dr. Majid Iqfan and Zoe Qadri.

The Executive members chosen were–Tanveer Pathan, Aga Arshid and Adv Wahid during the virtual launching of the MAP chapter in J&K.

During the MAP’s launch, Neelam Gaash pointed towards the mental health issue among the people of J&K, which has been spurred from several years, for which she promised to work diligently to alleviate the problem.

Vice President Malik Sajid told KNB that people with mental issues must be talked to and provided genuine support.

He said, “Mental issues among Kashmiris have risen from past several years and our aim is to help out such people, provide them clinical as well as other facilities,” adding, “These people are among us, one of us and we as professionals are much delighted to play the significant role in their lives and our society.” (KNB)
