Srinagar, October 4:Jammu and Kashmir Government and Border Security Force (BSF) on Wednesday blamed Pakistan for yesterday’s attack on paramilitary base at Humhama near Srinagar Airport, saying such incidents will continue till neighbouring doesn’t mend its ways.
According to GNS correspondent, the remarks were made by Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh, who is also senior BJP leader and DG BSF KK Sharma after attending wreath laying ceremony of BSF ASI who was killed yesterday after three fidayeen stormed BSF camp at Humhama during pre-dawn strike. Senior PDP leader and Education Minister Altaf Bukhari was also present on the occasion along with top police and CRPF officers.
“It is a proxy war…but we will defeat Pakistan sponsored terrorism,” Deputy Chief Minister told media persons after the wreath laying ceremony. He said that the attacks by militants show their desperation and vowed to defeat them. “We will this defeat this proxy war,” Dr Singh said and praised BSF for repulsing the attack. Taking a dig at Pakistan, he said: “if a neighbor is good, everything remains good”. The Deputy CM lambasted Pakistan for cross border shelling and attacks inside J-K.
DG BSF KK Sharma said as long as Pakistan doesn’t behave itself the attacks will continue. “So long as our friendly neighbor doesn’t behave, we expect many more such attacks,” he said, adding that Fidayeen are determined and cannot be stopped. “The Fidayeen are determined, we cannot stop the attack of fidayeen and they will always manage to come. The response is important and the response was highly profession.
“They were spotted and challenged and without much harm and damage we managed to neutralize them,” he said. The DG BSF said that they felt militants were attempting to target ammunition in quarter guard but their attempt was foiled. “When they were fired, they went into multiple directions. They (fidayeen) come with shroud on their heads but we neutralized them with less damage of ours and this displays BSF’s training discipline, courage and bravery,” he said.
The BSF DG said they were alerted about the fidayeen strike and were ready. “We always keep upgrading our security and we were ready,” he said, adding that they have reports about the training camps and launch pads active on the other side of Line of Control. Asked about infiltration of militants, he said that the intrusion threat is real but refused to comment further, saying army is manning the LoC.(GNS)
