Eve-teasing is a typical social crime faced by girls in every second of the minute. Youth in Kashmir are getting derailed by watching the negative stuff on television and networking sites and do the same negative procedure in their real life. There are several cases of eve-teasing reported everyday with zero justice to the victims.
Maisuma and other adjoining areas in Srinagar are the most common places reported for eve-teasing.
“I used to travel by sumo from my home towards collage but now I prefer to travel in a local bus as one of the sumo driver operating from Gaw Kadal stand used to comment on me while the other drivers used to support his talks,” said a student who wants anonymity.
Shocking incidents have taken place near Women’s college M.A road so far. “One day I was waiting for my friend near college, a bottle suddenly hit me on my head. I was wandering to where it came from and suddenly I saw four boys in a car laughing their lungs out on me. They just got a kick out of my humiliation,”said a student who wants anonymity.

According to reports, eve-teasing mostly takes place at public places, public transport, coaching centers, streets, parks etc. Atleast 60 percent of respondents witnessed eve-teasing in the form of verbal abuse and 10 percent in the form of physical abuse. Eve-teasing is a sort of mental abuse which needs to be controlled.
Women avoid walking in dark lanes and avoid passing through the place where they find group of men. Women say that they are not afraid of slapping the eve-teasers but they are afraid about the consequences.”I have watched episodes of eve- teasing that has torn my heart into pieces and I curse myself for being a girl,” said Asma a student of Women’s collage.
Students of Women’s collage M.A road are demanding placement of police officials near their collage gates because they are often teased by boys during the closing time of collage.
According to a medical survey 40 percent of girls face depression because of eve-teasing. It directly affects the mind due to which a person gets disinterested in his social life leading in loss of professional life .”when I was traveling in bus a boy touched my hand I took it as his mistake but he again did the same I was left with no option and I preferred to leave the bus as I did not want to make a joke of myself as people usually blame a girl for boys mistake,” said Saima–a teacher at private school.
