Budgam, 07 Mar 2016.  Hundreds of youth appeared at the Territorial Battalion (TA) based at Old Air Field, Rengreth in outskirts of Srinagar City, where Army conducted first phase of recruitment rally for the candidates from Shopian and Srinagar districts for 30 vacancies of soldiers (General Duty) at Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry Regimental Centre.

In a clear reflection of the desire of the local youth to don the Olive Greens, over 1500 candidates turned up collectively from both the districts to participate in the rally and all were given an opportunity to appear in the physical tests. The final result will be declared at the end of the recruitment rally. Joint security arrangements were made by the unit and Budgam police keeping in view the large representation in the last year’s recruitment rally conducted by the unit. Two Dy SPs from district Headquarters, Budgam, three SHOs and over 50 police personnel were deployed at the rally site alongwith the Army for the smooth conduct of the rally.

Army is sensitive to the growing desire of Kashmiri youth to join Army and has started conducting recruitment in a phased manner. The rallies for recruitment into all categories of the army will be held in Sunjuwan in Jammu, Bandipora in Kashmir and Drass in Ladakh in the coming months. The tentative dates for Sunjuwan recruitment rally for candidates from all districts are 02 April to 18 April. At Bandipora, the rally is planned from 11 July to 18 July for all districts except Leh and Kargil for which it has been scheduled from 22 August to 25 August at Drass.

The Army offers a lifetime opportunity of adventure, education, progression besides dignity and self-esteem to a soldier as also to his family. The overwhelming response to the rally is but a reaffirmation of the Kashmiri youth’s growing aspirations to embrace the noble profession of soldering for the nation.
