Flawed Face Of Magam Police, This Man In Trouble Over ‘WhatsApp Message’

To cover-up the defective policing way, officials at police station, Magam allegedly resorted to ‘mental harassment’ of a Human Rights Activist.

Er Irfan Banka, who is also a district coordinator of J&K RTI Movement was called-up from police station Magam and his phone was seized on Monday.

Banka said, “My dual sim mobile has been seized by police station Magam yesterevening. I received a call from police station regarding my already filed RTI just to make them accountable. They could not reply my RTI because they had lost the already filed complaint via speed post.”

Banka had actively sought the status of his complaint and after visiting the police station few times, he was told about no such complaint being registered.

“The police station officials know that I am a Human Rights Activist and district coordinator of J&K RTI Movement and hence were aware that I would highlight their defective way of policing,” he added.

To harness his voice against the faulty system, Banka was allegedly charged for being involved in spreading bogus news content on social networking sites, for uprising of youth against forces.

“They were in search of something so that I could be harassed and suppressed. The police as I have analysed is not performing the real policing and hence have seized my mobile today just to harass me mentally,” he complained.

Banka was also called up from the police station to receive a reply from PIO police station and was forcibly made to sign some papers.

“Although the reply could have been sent via post but their motive was to get some papers signed that I could not read properly being written in unreadable Urdu Language. While signing I mentioned that I have been compelled for the same.”

The police had mentioned his inclusion in a WhatsApp group namely Magam News Service, administered by Idrees Badrani. He was impeached for sharing a fake news story in the whatsapp group, which could lead to bristling against forces.

“This is nonsense as everything is possible on social media and everybody knows such news is not believable unless and until proper source is mentioned there,” he said.

Besides being an entrepreneur whose business wholly depends upon his contacts, his phone was still seized.

Banka said,”I told them I am an entrepreneur and seizing my mobile may result in a huge loss of my business unit. I am whole dependent upon this phone and the police is responsible for any such loss.”

Ready to accept the reception of such messages on the whatsapp group, Banka says he never shared any controversial content.

“Seizing my mobile means the mental harassment of an RTI Activist instead of following law by the police.”

Banka appeals the district authorities of Budgam to look into the matter and holds the same responsible in case of any loss of his business unit.
