Religion and politics co-exist since time immemorial and now the political prerogative is enjoying the issue of beef ban across India. The issue of completely removing beef from Indian dietary tradition seems to be like an unending topic in India.
After so many controversies over the beef row, Devyani Singh, an editor of a government magazine in Haryana has been dismissed after the publication carried an article that mentioned the benefits of beef.
According to the report of The Indian Express, Shiksha Saarthi is the bilingual magazine in Hindi and English published by the secondary education department, had published an article ‘Iron – Vital for strength’ that described beef, veal (the meat of young cows), lamb and pork as ‘enhancers’ that ‘directly affect absorption of iron in human body’. The article described iron as ‘one of the important micro-nutrients which is required for the human body on a daily basis.
The editor of magazine has given a justification that the article was based on scientific research and recommendations.
Education Minister, Ram Bilas Sharma despite being told by experts that there is enough evidence to show that the editor had only stated a scientific fact still removed the editor, Deviyani Singh, and pulled up senior officials of the education department. “We said that it should not have been published,” PTI quoted Sharma as saying. He added that further action would follow.
