Dozen injured in attack on langers at Baltal

Baltal:  At least one dozen persons were injured in stone pelting by locals on langer committee members at Baltal on Friday.

As per news pour in more then dozen tents were put on fire or looted by unruly mob.

According to eye witnesses, the paramilitary CRPF men fired teargas shells to disperse protesters which including tent owners, pony owners, traders and labourers. Actually trouble started yesterday when a group of pony walas misbehave with some female pilgrims. Some langer committee members intervened and they allegedly beat one pony wala who is identified as Nayib Ahmad and had to be shifted to a local hospital, where his condition is reported to be stable.

As the news of his attack spread in the area, hundreds of people took to the streets and tried to march towards Dumail, two kilometres from Baltal en-route the cave shrine in Kashmir Himalayas. Sensing trouble, the paramilitary forces deployed for the security of Amarnath yatris used force to disperse the protesters.

In the ensuing clashes, two dozen tents and four langars were damaged besides injuring at least 20 people.

Meanwhile, yatra to the cave shrine has been suspended on Baltal route.
The situation continues to remain tense.
