Baramulla:The lackadaisical attitude of the Power development department Kashmir can be gauged by the fact that Dangling and low-lying electric wires tied with trees and worn-out wooden poles are posing grave threat to the lives of people as well as to their property in Gantamulla Bala village of Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla District.

However, hardly any effort has been made by the Power development department Kashmir to fix the low-lying and dangling wires as well as worn out wodden poles.

“In our residential area, live electric wires hang less than 8 feet from the ground. At many places, these wires are attached to worn-out wooden poles or trees. It seems that the Power Development department is inviting trouble. As if they (PDD) want people to be electrocuted” told one of the local resident while talking to Kashmir News Bureau.

Worn out and broken wooden electricity poles and hanging electricity wires near fire watch tower residential area of Gantamulla Bala is posing a threat to commuters as well as grave threat to Children and students. Many of the poles in the area are either worn out or broken. Thus, passersby remain at a risk of some unwanted accident, especially during rain or storm.

The department has failed to install the electric poles and the transmission lines can be seen hanging from the wooden poles,” the residents said, adding the transmission lines were lying very low to the ground thus posing a severe danger to the lives of people of the area told local residents while talking to Kashmir News Bureau.

Local residents also added that they have made repeated requests to the PDD officials seeking alignment of transmission lines on the electric poles but they alleged that their pleas have fallen to deaf ears till date.

It is pertinent to mention that PDD department is claiming to have spend crores for repair, maintenances and augmentation purposes but in reality it is only on papers whereas ground situation is grim. The condition of High Tension (HT) transmission lines and Low Tension (LT) lines is going from bad to worse with each passing day.

When Contacted AEE Shakeel Ahmad told Kashmir News Bureau that “I will visit there by tommorrw and and I on spot I will check the actual position and after that new poles will be installed immediately
and every low-lying electric wire in the area will be rectified accordingly”.

Meanwhile Residents appealed to Lt Governor to intervene into the matter so that the people may feel safe and secure.(KNB)
