Courtesy Govt’s insensitivity; Banks deny loans to SSA teachers

SRINAGAR, Aug 25: There seems to be no end to the plight of SSA teachers in Jammu and Kashmir as the Government seems to be in no mood to end their agonies in a near future.

As the monthly salaries of the teachers who get confirmed after discharging five years of the rigorous service as contractual, continue to remain pending since the past eight months, the Government claims over mitigating the sufferings of the SSA teachers proved to be a mere hoax. The aggrieved teachers said their salaries continue to remain pending and no announcement about ending the crisis, is being made by the Government.

There are even reports that the SSA teachers are denied the loans from the banks as the financial houses here remain skeptic about the income of these teachers. “No, we really hesitate in giving any loan facility to the SSA teachers. They could be Government employees but their income is not constant. We have cases wherein they (SSA teachers) have emerged as the major defaulters due to the fact that they do not receive their monthly wages on time,” one of the bank employees while pleading anonymity said.

He maintained that though banks everyday receive scores of loan applications from the SSA teachers but there is a generalized policy under which loan is accorded to the person whose income remains constant.

There were also scores of SSA teachers who accused the Government of turning blind eye towards their plight, saying Jammu and Kashmir is perhaps the only state where teachers meet such a dreadful treatment.”Perhaps in times to come, no one would want to become a teacher. If the Government earlier has stated that it is going to make the Government jobs less attractive, here seems the vindication of that statement,” SSA teacher Mohammad Saleem said, adding that scores after witnessing such a tale getting unfolded for themselves would want to bid adieu to one of the noble professions of the world.

Also, the present situation, which is proving itself to be no less than a turbulent one for the poor teachers, is unmasking the tall claims of the state Government. Akhtar had earlier stated that the issues pertaining to the SSA teachers have ended and that they would face no problem in future. “We have taken all measures to ensure that the salaries of these teachers are disbursed on time and no issues will be faced by them in future,” Akhtar had said.

But ironically, the situation is getting dreadful everyday after and the teachers who have succeeded in imparting education in the far flung areas of the state are now left unattended.
