Srinagar 04 March (KNB): After the municipal and Panchayat election held last year, the parliamentary and assembly elections likely to be held in month of April in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
The highly placed sources from Delhi wishing anonymity talking to to Kashmir News Bureau said, “The centre is ready to conduct the upcoming parliamentary and the assembly elections in march-april months.”
He further added that “After the conduction of the peaceful and successful ULB elections last year and improvement in ground situation, the decision on the phases of election would be taken keeping in the mind the availability of security and topography of the state.”
Meanwhile a team from Election Commission of India are on two day visit to valley to review the preparedness for the upcoming election and the security arrangements in the state. The team is headed by the Deputy Election Commissioner Sandeep Sharma and is going to held a meeting with the various leaders of the seven national parties and three regional parties.
The regional parties has urged the election commission to conduct the elections as soon as possible to end the prevailing political uncertainty in valley.
Important to mention, there are 87 assembly and 6 Lok Sabha constituencies in state of Jammu and Kashmir. Legislative assembly elections have been held 11 times in the state since 1951 whereas parliamentary election have been held 12 times since 1967. (KNB)
