APDP protests in Srinagar to mark World Disappearance Day

Castigates successive regimes for failing to trace their beloved ones

Srinagar, Aug 30 : Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons (APDP) on Wednesday staged silent protest at Srinagar’s Pratap Park to mark the World Disappearance Day.

APDP members were holding the banners and placards displaying the pictures of the disappeared persons in Kashmir.
APDP seeks to draw attention to the continued practice of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial executions of Kashmiris with impunity in Jammu and Kashmir.

The spokespersons of the forum said that over the past three decades, more than 8,000 persons have been subjected to enforced or involuntary disappearances.

The association members castigated the successive regimes for failing to trace their beloved ones. The family and the relatives of the disappeared persons participated in the silent sit-in program to press the government to seek information about their beloved ones, who have vanished, presumed dead or imprisoned without trial or record.

APDP members alleged that their kin have been subjected to enforced disappearances by the forces and their related agencies from their homes, streets and even roads.

The association members vowed to continue their struggle for truth, justice and accountability till both the state and central governments accept their demand of impartial probe into the enforced disappearances and custodial killings.

They said that the main aim of their protest is to make the world community aware of the plight of people of Kashmir.

“We want to draw the attention of international organizations for intervening and mounting pressure on India to provide whereabouts of our missing family members,” they said.

The family of disappeared persons later appealed the government and International rights bodies to look into the matter and help them in tracing their beloved ones who are disappeared since decades. (KNS)
