Srinagar 26 December (KNB): Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that after the DDC election results, officials from Jammu & Kashmir Administration and Centre are exercising their powers illegally by detaining relatives of elected candidates and then forcing them to join Apni Party in order to release them.

While addressing a press conference in Srinagar, Vice President of National Conference Omar Abdullah said that JK Administration and Centre (BJP) spokespersons have been claiming that participation of people in DDC elections is a victory of Democracy but if it so, then every future step must be taken democratically which is not happening at all.

Omar said, “since the results are out, Administration has been harassing the leaders by arresting them, threatening them.”

“Those districts in which PAGD has won in Kashmir province, administration and Centre by hook or crook are trying to change the election results, starting the same from Shopian district,” Omar said.

He further said, “Our two senior members, one Ex MLC Wachi, Showkat Ganai and Shopian segment in charge (NC) Shabir Ah. Kulley are being kept in Preventive detention after the results were declared.”

“We don’t understand what they are preventing here, except democracy,” he added.

He further said that Shabir Ah. Kulle wasn’t even detained after the August ‘Black’ decision, but we have understood why he is being kept in preventive detention after the results, that is because one by one these winners are being forcefully made to join Apni Party.

Former Chief Minister said that among these candidates include members of Congress, PDP, independents and unfortunately a winning candidate of NC Yasmeena, who were also forcefully made to join Apni party.

Omar claimed that they have proof, telephonic recording that some people in the administration and with the help of police and other officials are arresting people and then promising their release if only these DDC election-winning candidates join Apni Party.

Omar Abdullah went on to play a telephonic conversation during the press conference and claimed that DDC elected NC candidate Yasmeena’s Husband says that Apni Party Chief Altaf Bukhari has promised to release his brother within 3 days if she (his wife) joins the party. (KNB)
