2 women who entered marriage party uninvited mistaken for braid-choppers, beaten

Srinagar, Oct 3 : Two burqa-clad women were mistaken and beaten as ‘braid-choppers’ when they were caught on Tuesday after entering marriage hall without invitation at Babademb marriage hall here on Tuesday.




“Today at about 1830 hours, two Burqa clad ladies namely Iqra Shafi and her cousin Nuzhat, residents of Chinkara Mohalla Habbakadal were caught by general public alleging that they were braid choppers when the duo had entered a marriage hall without invitation at Babademb  marriage hall,” a police officer told GNS.

He said that the matter was verified and duo was questioned who revealed that they had entered to eat wazwan.

No hair-cutting tools were found in their possession and no hair chopping incident had taken place, the officer said.

Accordingly, a case has been registered and action will be initiated against rumour mongers, who tried to mislead the people, the officer said.

Earlier,  police rescued a local youth from the clutches of a group of people whom locals alleged was a braid chopper at Delina area of Baramulla in north Kashmir.

The youth namely Nayeem Ahmad Malla son of Ghulam Mohidin Malla of Dandoosa Rafiabad according to police is not a braid chopper but was in a relationship with a local girl and had gone there (Delina village) to meet her.

“Today afternoon the local people in Delina Baramulla caught hold of a boy who they alleged was a Braid chopper. On this police party from police post Delina rushed to the spot. The boy has been beaten mercilessly when police intervened to rescue him. Large numbers of miscreants attacked police party as well but somehow the boy was rescued from their clutches by firing tear smoke shells to disperse them”, a police officer told GNS.

The youth was immediately given medical treatment. Investigation into the matter revealed that Nayeem was in a relationship with a local girl from Delina village and had gone to meet her when he was spotted and beaten up by locals there accusing him being Braid chopper, the officer said.

Police has registered Case under FIR No 177/2017 and further investigation into the matter has taken up. Miscreants involved in the violence will be dealt as per law, the officer said, adding that strict legal action will be taken against miscreants breaking law in the name of so called braid chopping.

People are requested not to fall prey to rumors and its reiterated that strict legal action will be taken against attention seekers in the garb of braid chopping, he said.

Besides, rumor mongers and mischief mongers will also be brought to book who take advantage of the situation to disturb the peaceful atmosphere, the officer added. (GNS)
